How to Replace an audi car key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace audi key fob the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test as there are different pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU
