World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to the number of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.

Item level is a popular measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can look at the item level. It's a measure of the damage and its quality. The level of an Best item upgrade can be used to compare items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.

On PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the item level calculation is done. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, because the level of the region the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications which are then increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs.

Another way to change the stats on an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to provide items with extra damage or special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to make them unique by putting a name on them.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items that can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other rerolling options.

Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it's a unique item or the result of a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll attaches, or select which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in early game runs since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.

The luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an overall success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
