World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its leveled up advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and can be seen on all tooltips for items. It also serves to determine a gating condition when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the levels of the item. It's a sign of the item's condition and quality. The level of an item can be used to compare items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.

The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its value. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about the method by which the level of an item upgrader kit is determined. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that various perks have different value and gems in sockets increase the overall value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is often very close to Blizzards actual level of the Best item upgrader.

However, this is not the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, as the size of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for example by adding an amount to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.

Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item level upgrade can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.

Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could be used to give the item additional damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are an exclusive item, or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items as well as the properties created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is particularly useful in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Additionally some items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be bought from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item if it does not work.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased as high, and the probability that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The Luck of an item can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
