9 Things Your Parents Teach You About Item Upgrader
World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases as it is upgraded. This value is the total of all its upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.
Item level is a commonly used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips for items. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can look at the levels of the item. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it will be capable of causing. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done by using the level of the item.
On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its level. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are several theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard item level.
However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, because the level of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods which are then boosted by the player's level.
Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item upgrade will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.
Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other options for rerolling.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
This is another thing that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the chance of finding items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in the early game, because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any skill that deals damage by five percent. These items can be bought in the shop or made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..
The luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. Each item has a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by an additional 5%.
The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
