1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will show a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky because there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions but the most effective method of testing it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this sensor, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get zero Ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in but it still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is easy to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The signs of a failing G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or a misfire when in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. 5. Tachometer
