WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

You can upgrade items your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item upgrade level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with the help of button, which will display a preview of the item at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade item recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will be less expensive, even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade items is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an item upgrade that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item Level Upgrade in the proper steps and paths.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
