The 10 Scariest Things About Item Upgrading
Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing its base stats or providing additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and access the kiln.
Typically items with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, while items with strong bases such as eth titans do not vary significantly in their stats after being upgraded.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be used to upgrade trinkets, armor, weapons and gathering tools, providing an attribute bonus or extra effect when the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, found as loot by enemies, or received from chests and missions. Certain upgrades can also be equipped with special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before they can be upgraded.
To upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the user must select it, and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview that shows the expected upgrade stats and the components or materials required for the upgrade.
There are three kinds that are universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which include gems, are able to be used in any type of equipment, and offer lower bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Infusions, which can only be placed in ascended gear and legendary equipment, are the same as jewels but have higher bonuses and are not able to be placed in any other type of equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add the suffix to the end of the names of items. For example adding the suffix Glyph could transform a Staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.
If the player upgrades their gathering tool, and replaces the glyphs by a different one the previous one will be returned to their inventory. However replacing any other upgrade component will damage it, except for inscriptions which can be freely swapped.
Leveling
Path of Exile's upgrade system differs from previous versions in several fundamental ways. Gear is now categorised in tracks, and each item upgrades is able to be upgraded so many times before it's "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, but the materials required for upgrades do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a handful of important items to maximize their impact, rather than spreading out the cost of upgrades across several pieces.
This will enable the item to receive new upgrade components and a higher chance of success. This bonus is known as Artisan's Energy. It resets at 0 if the upgrade fails or increases if the upgrade succeeds.
Once a piece is upgraded to the maximum level, it will be able to receive affixes to boost its attributes. The amount of affixes available will depend on the item's type. For example an uncommon or unique weapon with a standard base will have only two affixes, while a legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade item requires an amount of Flightstones and crests depending on the current level of the item and the slot it's in. Weapons will typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.
If an item doesn't attain its maximum level, the NPC grants players the option to transfer it to a different character and re-infuse the item with a different set or upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and will cost the same amount of materials. However, it has a lower success rate.
Engineers may utilize a level to compare the height of the building to an established location, such as an existing benchmark. This is referred to as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings with the backsight rod and the level, then turning the level and taking the foresight rod reading. This method guarantees that buildings are constructed to the highest degree of precision and safety.

It is a crucial aspect of the game and can significantly increase the strength of an item and damage as well as other characteristics. You can do this through the item menu, or by pressing the Reroll button whenever you upgrade an item. Rerolling is costly and should only be done in rare cases.
Reroll tokens are earned by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade either the original item or a comparable item. Recyclable items have an indicator that indicates the degree of upgrade. The amount of level that has been filled is contingent on the rarity and cost of upgrading of the item.
Prior to this, some upgrade items were given priority affixes that made them easier for players to roll. This meant that you would get the stats that mattered most to your build often than others. This included stats like the armor's total armour, thorns, and control impaired duration reduced stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.
This has changed since the latest patch. Priority affixes are no longer required and all upgrades will have the same chances of rolling for every stat. This could be good or bad, based on what you want and need from your equipment.
Each upgraded item upgrade can have a unique bonus that boosts the power of the item by a specific percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are added to the normal affixes. The more you upgrade a product, the better the chance of receiving an exclusive bonus.
The game also includes number sets that grant the player a bonus if three or four upgraded items from the set are installed on an unit. This is a good method of giving an individual character more power without spending a lot of money.
Many players prefer to reroll their gear and weapons, especially in the beginning of the game. This is because rerolling can give players a faster route to becoming a strong character and allows them to climb higher levels and progress in the game faster.

In general, weapons and jewelry offer more value for trade when they are fully upgraded than armor. Particularly for weapons with damage glyphs that are spell-like or weapon-related, upgrading them to gold is recommended as it will provide a significant increase in their performance. Armor that has an upgraded appearance will benefit from this upgrade because its defense will increase when it goes from purple to gold.
